Paul Krugman and the IDSA

Paul Krugman understands the power of a false doctrine.

Paul Krugman writes today in the New York Times:

“I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the power of doctrines — how support for a false dogma can become politically mandatory, and how overwhelming contrary evidence only makes such dogmas stronger and more extreme.”

Nothing could be more true about the IDSA position on Lyme borreliosis. They insist that it is easy to diagnose and easy to cure. They insist tests work better than they do. They reject all science that contradicts their moral-tribal-corporate dogma. And, yes, your family doctor probably supports that dogma, risking the health and, possibly, the lives of your family and friends.
